Out of 100 disasters reported worldwide, only 20 occur in Africa, yet the continent suffers 60% of all disaster-related deaths due to its high level of vulnerability and despite its low exposure to natural hazards. Out of the 15 countries with the highest vulnerability to disasters, 13 are situated on the African continent, with the Central African Republic, Eritrea and Chad ranking as the Top 3 (World Risk Report, 2016). In view of the above, evidence-based capacity strengthening remains one of the key steps to build resilient and disaster-prepared societies in Africa, and constitutes a crucial element in educating conscious and innovative future African leaders and decision makers.
Our trainings are meant for practitioners, decision and policy makers working in disaster risk management and/or reduction, as well as volunteers and staff working with organizations tasked with human development. This includes individuals working with government institutions, NGOs, the UN, intergovernmental bodies and the private sector. Students and young professionals who would like to increase their knowledge in DRM are also welcome!
While the Republic of South Africa hosts Gravitazz’s Head Office and for this reason remains the main venue for our Short Training Courses, one of our main goals is to share the expertise throughout the whole African Continent. Therefore, we offer our exceptional instructor-led courses both in English and French in the following regions:
-
Southern Africa
-
East Africa
